Early life: Raised in a Russian peasant village of Gori, Georgia, Russian Empire. His real name is Losif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili, but later on goes by Joseph Stalin. His father is Besarion Jughashvili who was a cobbler; who made and repaired shoes. His mother Ketevan Geladze was a washerwoman who washed clothes for a living.
Upbringing: When he was 7 he had smallpox and his face was scarred. Sometime later he was involved in a carriage accident leaving his arm injured. He was bullied by the other village children. Because of being weak he wanted to be superior. He developed an attitude of hatred for those who crossed him. He was sent to catholic school and gained a scholarship. In 1898 he joined a secret Georgian organization that wanted independence from Russia. This is wear Stalin met Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin.
